Ahhh planning...we all love the idea of planning but really sticking to it can be difficult.
I, myself was a to-do list, cross off/highlight things I've done kind of girl for a while...but I seemed to hit a wall several months ago and my usual organizational tools were no longer as effective and I found myself getting sucked into the daily distractions we all face leaving my to-do list unchecked. I started to feel unproductive and felt my time wasn't being well spent on my priorities. Week after week, I found myself disappointed and frustrated at the end of each week that I didn't accomplish the truly important items (And I'm not just talking work priorities!)
So, I did what we all do when we have a a problem we want to solve with little time and patience to solve it...I turned to the World.Wide.Web.
Alas, the internet did not deliver for me like it normally does. I found tips and weekly planners that were useful, but there wasn't ONE solution out there that really seemed to resonate with me.
So, I did what I think I do best...I sourced things that alone were good (but not GREAT) and brought them together to form a WINNING solution. I listened to podcasts, I read book excerpts, and reviewed many blogs and articles. In essence, I dusted off my basketball "point guard" skills from high-school (Go Coyotes!) and lead a project that would eventually yield the most awesome weekly planner I have ever used (that's saying A LOT peeps because I am a PLANNER). And I created it! (Bonus points!)
After using this planner for the last few months, I can honestly say I have never been more productive and more importantly...fulfilled personally and professionally. AND I think this planner is a HUGE contributor to that.
So, I've decided to do another thing I think I do best...SHARE!
This planner may not be the one for you, but at the very least...I bet just looking at it will get your wheels spinning on what you do need for a planner in your life and well...that is still a help to anyone!
So how do I use my planner?
I spend about 30 minutes at the start of my week filling out my planner. I consult my calendar AND my project lists (personal and professional) to determine what REALLY needs to get done that week and therefore deserves MY attention. I get hyper-focused on ACTUAL priorities so that's where my time and energy is spent. Of course, I do buffer in a bit of "life happenings time" as I call it because well...LIFE HAPPENS!
